Chess is a game of skill and strategy. It is a game that has been played for centuries and has been enjoyed by people of all ages. Zugzwang Chess Club is a place where chess enthusiasts can come together to play, learn, and share their love of the game. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, Zugzwang Chess Club has something for everyone. So come join us and let's play some chess! Zugzwang Chess Club welcomes you!
The Zugzwang Chess Club was founded by Sarveshwar Senthil Kumar and Liam Pham when we were in Grade 11. We were frustrated by the mismanagement and lack of structure in their school's official chess club. Determined to create a space for passionate players, we established the club, named after the chess term for a position where any move worsens the situation, symbolizing their drive to always improve. Despite facing resistance and being initially marginalized by the school's existing chess leadership, We persisted, building a thriving community that emphasized learning, competition, and a love for the game. Their efforts eventually led to the decline of the old club and the rise of Zugzwang as a respected force in the school's chess scene.
We are currently managing the chess club at Port Credit Secondary School, working alongside the previous leadership team to ensure a smooth transition and continued success. As part of our efforts to engage more students and foster a love for chess, we are also organizing the highly anticipated Peel District-Wide Chess Tournament, which will take place on May 22nd. It's shaping up to be an exciting event, and we'll keep you updated with more details as the date approaches!
If you're interested in joining us for some friendly chess matches, come visit us every Monday during lunch in Room 127. Whether you're a seasoned player or just getting started, we welcome all skill levels and look forward to seeing new faces. It's a great opportunity to improve your game, make new friends, and have some fun along the way!
